Empowering Wells County

United Way of Wells County is dedicated to improving lives and building a stronger community by addressing critical local needs. As a volunteer-driven organization, we work hand-in-hand with community leaders, local agencies, and committed citizens to create impactful and sustainable change. Through strategic partnerships and targeted initiatives, United Way of Wells County focuses on empowering individuals and enhancing the quality of life for everyone in our community. With a legacy rooted in service since 1966, we are proud to be part of a larger network committed to advancing the common good.

“Promote and lead positive solutions that improve lives and strengthen our Community.”

United Way of Wells County began as a Community Chest and later became the United Fund of Wells County in 1966.

Today, it operates as a locally governed, volunteer-driven organization led by a board of 13-17 community leaders.

The first full-time executive director was appointed in 1999, marking a significant step in the organization’s growth.

United Way of Wells County is a member of United Way Worldwide, the Indiana Association of United Ways, and the Northeast Indiana Consortium of United Ways/Funds, a regional collaborative network.

The organization’s focus has evolved from primarily fundraising and allocation to fostering lasting community impact. This “three-legged” approach—funding, collaboration, and community change—is central to its mission of improving lives in Wells County.

In 1999, United Way of Wells County initiated a board transformation as part of a strategic planning effort. Today, it is led by a board president, with each board member participating on at least one committee and playing an active role. In 2010, new by-laws were adopted to guide this mission-driven work.
